[기획의도] Hi! English Teacher♡
Hi! English Teacher는 생활정보교육 프로그램으로, 시선뉴스 심재민MC와 민트영어 현지 선생님이 직접 출연해 ‘집에서 떠나는 어학연수’를 경험하게 도와주는 영상뉴스입니다. 색다른 영어 교육 프로그램의 시작으로 온라인 영상프로그램의 새로운 장을 선보이며, 시청자들의 지식교양을 고취시키도록 하는 프로그램입니다.

안녕하세요. Hi Teacher~ 심재민입니다. 영어를 학습하는 데에 있어서 어려운 표현들이 여러 가지가 있죠 그중 수동태의 표현도 알쏭달쏭한 부분 중 한 가지입니다. 오늘 마크 선생님과 수동태 표현에 대해 배워보도록 합니다. 오늘도 필리핀 현지로 날아갈 준비 되셨죠? 전화기와 이어폰 준비하시고 뚜뚜뚜뚜뚜뚜뚜뚜. 출발~~

J(제이) Hi, Teacher Mark. (depressed voice) (안녕하세요 마크 선생님. (시무룩한 목소리))
Mark Oh, J! Oh my god! What’s wrong? You sound different. (오, J! 오 마이 갓! 무슨일인가요? 당신 목소리가 다르네요.)
J(제이) Yes, Teacher Mark. That’s right. I am little bit sad because my wallet stolen. (네, 마크 선생님. 맞아요. 저 오늘 지갑을 훔쳐서 좀 슬퍼요.)
Mark What? What did you say? Your wallet? Stolen? (네? 뭐라고 말했나요? 당신 지갑이요? 훔쳤었다고요?)
J(제이) Yes… You are right… My wallet stolen! (with emphasis) (네, 당신 말이 맞아요. 내 지갑이 훔쳤어요! (강조해서) )
Mark Aha! Now I understand what you’re talking about. But you don’t have to say it that way. Okay, I will give you some corrections. You need to say “My wallet was stolen by someone” or “My wallet was stolen.” (아하! 이제 당신이 무슨 말을 하고 있는지 알겠어요. 하지만 당신은 그렇게 말하면 안되요. 오케이, 내가 고쳐줄게요. 당신은 이렇게 말해야 해요. “내 지갑이 누군가에게 훔침을 당했어요” 또는 “내 지갑을 도둑맞았어요.”)
J(제이) Aha! Really? Why do I say so? (아하! 정말요?? 왜 그렇게 말해야 해요?)
Mark Think about it? Do you think a wallet can move by itself? (생각해봐요? 지갑이 스스로 움직일 수 있나요?)
J(제이) Hmm.. hmm.. (흠'흠..)
Mark So, someone stole your wallet! (그래서, 누군가가 당신의 지갑을 훔지는거죠!)
J(제이) Yes, right! Because a wallet doesn’t have legs and feet! (네, 맞아요! 지갑은 다리나 발이 없으니까요!)
Mark Okay, now you understand. Keep listening. So, imagine that I am holding a wallet and I will be moving it. Am I correct? (맞아요, 이제 이해했네요. 계속 들어봐요. 그래서, 내가 지갑을 들고 있고 나는 그것을 움직일 수 있어요. 맞나요?)
J(제이) Yes, that’s right teacher. (네, 맞아요 선생님.)
Mark That’s it! With grammar, we call this Passive. In Korean, we can say “Su dong tae”. (바로 그거에요! 문법으로 보면, 우리는 이것을 Passive라고 해요. 한국말로는, 우리는 ‘수동태’라고 말 할 수 있죠.)
J(제이) Ahhh!!! Su dong tae! Dong tae! Dong tae! Dong tae! Hahaha! It’s joking teacher! So is there any rule we can make passive sentence? (아!!! 수동태! 동태! 동태! 동태! 하하하! 농담이에요 선생님! 그럼 수동태 문장을 만들 수 있는 규칙이 있나요?)
Mark Yes! The rule is very simple! Have a be verb + past participle. Do not use the root of a verb not its past tense. For example… You can say “The wallet was stolen.” (그럼요! 규칙은 매우 간단해요! be동사 + 과거 분사. 동사원형을 쓰지 마세요. 과거 시제가 아니에요. 예를 들면, “The wallet was stolen.” 라고 말할 수 있어요.)
J(제이) Simple! Aha! Very simple! Okay, I will try another sentence. I was born in 1983. Is this correct, Teacher Mark! (간단하네요! 아하! 매우 간단해요! 알겠어요, 제가 다른 문장을 시도해 볼게요. 저는 1983년에 태어났습니다. 맞나요 마크 선생님!)
Mark Ding-dong-dang! Perfect! You already know how to make sentences in passive voice. I’ll give you a tip. Please memorize: “be interested in”, “be surprised at” and “be tired of”. They are useful in making sentences in passive voice. Can you make sentences using these phrases? (딩-동-댕! 완벽해요! 당신은 이미 수동태 문장을 만들 줄 아네요. 팁을 하나 줄게요. “be interested in”, “be surprised at” 그리고 “be tired of” 를 외워두세요. 이 문장들은 수동태 문장을 만드는데 유용해요. 이 구문을 사용해서 문장을 만들어 볼 수 있나요?)
J(제이) I am interested in movie. I am surprised at big sound in the movie. I am tired of these old clothes. (나는 영화에 흥미가 있다. 나는 영화 속 큰 소리에 놀란다. 나는 이 오래된 옷들에 실증이 난다.)
Mark Good try! “I am interested in movie.” – You should say “I am interested in watching movies”. “I am surprised at big sound in the movie.” – You should say “I am surprised at the loud sound in the movies.” “I am tired of these old clothes.” – This is correct! (좋은 시도에요! “I am interested in movie.” “I am interested in watching movies”라고 말해야해요. “I am surprised at big sound in the movie.” – “I am surprised at the loud sound in the movies.” 이렇게 말해야 해요. “I am tired of these old clothes.” – 이건 완벽하네요!)
J(제이) Thank you teacher! “I am interested in watching movies”. “I am surprised at the loud sound in the movies.” “I am tired of these old clothes.” (감사합니다 선생님! ! “I am interested in watching movies”. “I am surprised at the loud sound in the movies.” “I am tired of these old clothes.”)
Mark Good job! There is one more tip I want to tell you. If you express your feelings, you always need to make them in passive voice. For example… “I am bored.” “I am excited.” “I am depressed.” (잘 했어요! 말해주고 싶은 팁이 하나 더 있어요. 만약 당신이 당신의 감정을 표현할 때는, 항상 수동태로 만들어야 해요. 예를 들어 “I am bored.”나는 지루하다 “I am excited.” 난 흥분된다 “I am depressed.” 나는 우울하다.)
J(제이) Ah! I know I know! I also try one more my feeling! I am irritated because my wallet was stolen. Like this teacher? (아! 알아요 알아요! 제 감정을 하나 더 시도해 볼게요! 나는 짜증이 난다 왜냐하면 내 지갑을 도둑맞았기 때문이다. 이렇게 말이죠, 선생님?)

Mark Wow! It seems that you perfectly understood our lesson! Good job! Just remember, a sentence in passive voice consists of be verb + past participle. (와우! 당신은 우리 수업을 완벽하게 이해한 것 같네요! 잘 했어요! 기억하세요, 수동태 문장은 be동사+과거분사로 만듭니다.)

네 ~ 오늘 정말 다양한 수동태의 표현을 배워 보았습니다. 어렵게만 여겨지던 수동태의 표현 이었는데 ‘be+과거분사’만 기억하면 될 것 같습니다. 그리고 interested in, be surprised at, be tired of처럼 자주 쓰는 표현은 외워두면 더 좋겠죠! 오늘 배운 표현 복습하시는 것 잊지 마시고 다음시간에 또 만나요! 안녕~
